Jamnagar II (India), Ulsan (South Korea), Onsan (South Korea), Daesan I (South Korea), and Limay (Philippines) are the major refineries with active alkylation units in the region. The alkylation unit’s capacity in Asia increased from 402 mbd in 2015 to 535 mbd in 2020 at an AAGR of 5.7%. China, Japan, India, South Korea, and Taiwan are the key countries in Asia that accounted for over 90% of the total Alkylation unit’s capacity of the region in 2020.
In Asia, 13 new alkylation unit refineries are expected to become operational between 2021 and 2025. When operational, the alkylation unit capacity of these refineries will be 138 mbd in 2025.
Caribbean
In 2020, the Caribbean accounted for 0.7% of the total global alkylation unit’s capacity. Pointe-a-Pierre (Trinidad and Tobago), and Curacao (Curacao) are the only two refineries with active alkylation units in the region. Alkylation unit’s capacity in the Caribbean decreased from 38 mbd in 2015 to 19 mbd in 2020 at a negative AAGR of more than 12%.
The total alkylation unit’s capacity of Trinidad and Tobago in 2020 was 10 mbd. Trinidad and Tobago’s contribution to the Caribbean’s total alkylation unit’s capacity was found to be more than 50%.
Europe
In 2020, Europe accounted for more than 5% of the total global alkylation unit’s capacity. Karlsruhe (Germany), Humber (United Kingdom), Stanlow (United Kingdom), Schwedt (Germany) and Mitteldeutschland Leuna Spergau (Germany) are the major refineries with active alkylation units in the region. Alkylation unit’s capacity in Europe decreased from 2015 to 2020 at a negative AAGR of 0.6%. United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, and Belgium are the key countries in Europe that accounted for over 68.2% of the total alkylation unit’s capacity of the region in 2020.
The total alkylation unit’s capacity of United Kingdom in 2020 was 43 mbd. United Kingdom’s contribution to Europe’s total alkylation unit’s capacity is 19.8%. Humber, Stanlow, Pembroke and Lindsey are the four active refineries in the country with alkylation units.
Former Soviet Union
In 2020, Former Soviet Union (FSU) accounted for more than 2% of the total global alkylation unit’s capacity. Nizhny (Russia), Omsk (Russia), Novo-Ufa (Russia), Ryazan (Russia) and Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan) are the major refineries with active alkylation units in the region. Alkylation unit’s capacity in the FSU increased from 58 mbd in 2015 to 68 mbd in 2020 at an AAGR of 3.1%. Russia, Turkmenistan, Belarus, and Azerbaijan are the only four countries in the FSU that accounted for entire alkylation unit’s capacity in 2020. In FSU, 17 new hydrotreater unit refineries are expected to become operational between 2021 and 2025. When operational, the hydrotreater unit capacity of these refineries will be 845 mbd in 2025.
Middle East
In 2020, the Middle East accounted for more than 4% of the total global alkylation unit’s capacity. Ruwais (United Arab Emirates), Yanbu II (Saudi Arabia), Rabigh (Saudi Arabia), Jubail II (Saudi Arabia), and Al-Zour (Kuwait) are the major refineries with active alkylation units in the region. Alkylation unit’s capacity in the Middle East increased from 115 in 2015 to 118 mbd in 2020 at an AAGR of 0.4%. Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Kuwait, and Israel are the countries in the Middle East that accounted for entire alkylation unit’s capacity of the region in 2020.
In the Middle East, three new alkylation unit refineries are expected to become operational between 2021 and 2025. When operational, the alkylation unit’s capacity of these refineries will be 17 mbd in 2025.
North America
