Global Gold Mining to 2020

In 2013, global gold mine production was 2,804 metric tons (t), an increase of 4% over 2012. The major 20 gold producing countries were China, the US, Australia, Russia, South Africa, Peru, Indonesia, Ghana, Canada, Kazakhstan, Tanzania, Papua New Guinea, Uzbekistan, the Philippines, Mali, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil and Chile. These countries together produced approximately a little more than 70% of the world’s annual gold mine production.

Scope

The report contains an overview of the global gold mining industry, together with key growth factors and restraints affecting the industry. It also provides information about reserves, production, prices, the competitive landscape, and major active, exploration and development projects.

Key Highlights

• At present, the gold industry contributes to countries' economic growth, as investments in gold mining are driving increases in production, with upcoming projects planned from 2014 to 2020.

• Several gold projects are currently expected to go operational over the forecast period to 2020; according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), global gold production is expected to increase to 3,100t by 2015 and 3,300t by 2017.

• Gold mine production is expected to increase overall, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.5% until 2020, following growing demand for gold, especially in the jewelry sector in Asia.

• The average grades of gold ore mined have declined over the years. The gold grades from producing mines range from a high of 32.8g/t to a low of 0.1g/t.
