Hyperscale providers dominate the cloud services sector. In GlobalData’s thematic screen, leading infrastructure as a service (IaaS) vendors Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, IBM, and Alibaba occupy five of the top six positions. They would enjoy a clean sweep of the top five were it not for the presence of VMware in fourth place.
This sector scorecard provides a top-down, comprehensive outlook for the key players in the cloud services sector over the next two years, based on the key themes set to transform their industry landscape.
The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the demand for cloud services, with businesses and individuals relying on the technology for work, education, and entertainment. The hyperscale providers have been chief beneficiaries, and cloud revenues continue to grow strongly (for example, in the quarter ended 31 March 2021, Microsoft generated $17.7bn in commercial cloud revenue, up 33% on the same period of the previous year).

To help our clients gain a competitive advantage, we have developed GlobalData’s thematic research ecosystem. This single, integrated global research platform provides an easy-to-use framework for tracking all themes across all companies in all sectors.
This report is a sector scorecard, which identifies those companies most likely to succeed in a world filled with disruptive threats.
