Monomer World – June 2011

The global monomer industry experienced sluggish demand in June 2011. In most regions such demand was attributed to the healthy spot availability, a drop in upstream energy complex demand and fluctuations in oil prices. The Asian monomer markets experienced bearish demand. As the supply was high and since May the prices have been decreasing, buyers were in the mood to wait and watch. The North American markets also experienced a marginal decrease before a sudden increase due to a major ethylene cracker shutdown. European monomer markets also experienced a similar drop in demand.
