Polyolefins World – May 2011

The global polyolefins market is currently experiencing a slump in demand. Prices are decreasing because of the low demand and also because of a decrease in the prices of feedstock and crude oil. In May, the US witnessed a significant decrease in polypropylene (PP) prices after reaching record highs in the previous month. In Asia, weakening demand and decreasing prices for naphtha and crude oil have made the market very dull as buyers are waiting for better prices to come in the next few weeks. Europe has experienced a similar scenario, as PP producers will find it very difficult to hold their prices as prices for propylene are decreasing.
