"This report includes policy updates on the major countries. There are around 15 news stories covered in the report. In addition to it, following two articles are covered in detail: 1. New Guidelines for India’s National Solar Mission India has set a target to increase its share of renewable energy in its total power generation. Solar PV will play an important role in meeting India’s energy needs while increasing its share of renewable energy. The government has set an ambitious target to install 20 GW of grid connected solar power plants by 2020. The government announced a set of new guidelines for the selection of grid connected solar PV power projects. These guidelines have been issued for the selection of a second batch of solar PV power projects to produce 350 MW of power, applicable for projects that will be selected during 2011-2012. These guidelines will help India’s PV project developers to become more competitive as the cap per developer has been increased by up to 50 MW. 2. US Department of Energy Announces $246m for Renewables, EVs The US Department of Energy (US DOE) has announced loan guarantees and grants amounting to $246m for various renewable energy and electric vehicle projects. The country is investing in renewable energy technologies with the aim to develop new job markets, strengthen the economy and protect the environment."
