A 15.7% rise in sales was reported for 2011 with 21% rise in 2012 to 2,005 million pieces; in both cases, recent price cuts are believed to be behind rising sales. Forecasts for 2013 are for a further 5% rise in sales to 2,105 million pieces.Premium brands saw their tax rate more than double and with the help of a rise in the nonduty paid sector, volume dropped 45.8% that year and by 41.6% in 2010 to 1,432 million pieces.Production was 4.25 billion pieces in 2013. Exports are a growing feature for MTOA, standing at 2.68 billion pieces in 2012. Imports are limited due to the high rates of duty imposed. They stood down at only 137 million pieces in 2012, equivalent to 6.8% of consumption.
